At Heinrich-Mann-Schule, children and young people can learn German as a Second Language
Deutsch als Zweitsprache (DaZ) Elementary level:
In a fixed class, children between the ages of six and ten or 11 and 15 learn German for up to three years. They are also taught other subjects such as maths and
science.
Advanced level:
When children have achieved an A2 language proficiency level, they switch to a mainstream
class. Here they take part in regular lessons, but still receive supportive DaZ lessons.
As they improve, young people can sit the exam for the internationally recognised, B1 level Deutsche Sprachdiplom (DSD I).
